Our new Director and direction
ANZSOG Institute for Governance
Commencing 1st June 2009, Professor Mark Evans formerly at the University of York (UK) will be the inaugural ACT government sponsored Australian and New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG) Professor in Public Administration and Director of the Institute, renamed the 'ANZSOG Institute for Governance'.
This consolidates a long term synergy between the aims of the Institute and ANZSOG.
News! - Centre of Excellence for Local Government
On 24th June Prime Minister Kevin Rudd annouced the $8million Centre of Excellence for Local Government, a consortium lead by UTS, which has had a Centre for Local Government since 1991, partnered with the University of Canberra, the Australia and New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG), Local Government Managers Australia and the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia.
The Institute will coordinate UC's involvement as lead partners in two Centre research programs and as a key participant in a third.
The Institute
The aims of the ANZSOG Institute for Governance are to advance knowledge in governance, using its networking activities to concentrate on improving governance practice across corporate, government and not for profit sectors, by arranging a continuing program of conferences, seminars and other closed and open forums for professionals and interested parties.
Coming Events
The Institute's a program of events for 2009 aims to present issues in governance significant in the current difficult financial environment including innovation, industry strategies and public sector leadership of the economy. The list of Twilight events and conferences are on our events page.
NIG Weekly Seminars
You can meet the new Director at his first public presentation on 17 June, when Professor Evans presents on his past work with the World Bank in Afghanistan inour Weekly Seminar series.
Second Annual Australian Risk Policy Institute/NIG Winter Seminar
ARPI and AIG are pleased to present the public debate "Is it Time To Mandate Risk Management - if not why not; if so, how and to what extent?" on 23rd July 2009 with a panel of prominent Australians presenting the cases for and against whether mandating risk management would improve public and private sector leadership, decision-making, transparency, accountability and restore public confidence in governance of the business and public sectors.
Ethics Competence Workshop
Following our series of 1 hour seminars on ethics and conduct in public service, the Institute is presenting this 3 hour workshop on 25th August 2009 on developing ethics competence, featuring case-scenarios and video materials to challenge participants to solve realistic ethical challenges in real time.
