Management Group

The role of the Management Group is to meet ANZSIG’s mission of producing international leading research in governance which deepens theory, advances knowledge and improves practice. With this aim in mind the Group develops strategy, monitors performance and enhances delivery of its core activities. ANZSIG’s four pillars are managed by specific office holders with the overall support of the Director. These are: the Deputy Director of Research Programs (Dr Fleming, Associate Dean Research, Faculty of Law); the Deputy Director of Research Student Development (Professor Blackman, Associate Dean Research, Faculty of Business and Government); the Convenors of Professional Development (Professor Linda Botterill and Professor Mark Evans); and the Convenor of Professional Engagement (Professorial Fellow, Bill Burmester). The Convenors manage the activities of each portfolio through an informal committee system.The Group is comprised of the following post-holders:

  • the Director of ANZSIG;
  • the Deans of the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Business and Government;
  • General Manager, ANZSOG;
  • Deputy Director of Research Students;
  • Deputy Director of Research Programs;
  • Convenor of Professional Development;
  • Convenor of Professional Engagement;
  • Director of Graduate Studies;
  • Convenors of Institute Research Programs;
  • Representative from the Adjunct Faculty;
  • Representative from the Research Student Body;
  • Representative from the Australian Public Service Commission; and
  • with Institute officers in attendance.

Voting on core issues is conducted on a ‘one member-one vote’ basis with the Chair holding a casting vote. It is incumbent on the Director of ANZSIG to seek the views of the Group on the key issues confronting ANZSIG. The Group will meet at least three times per annum but more often when business demands. The Director must submit: an annual report including a review of activities, progress in meeting key performance indicators and a review of finances; and an annual strategic review report identifying future directions. The Director must convene an annual 'away day' to deliberate on matters of importance to ANZSIG. Each ex-officio post-holder should submit an annual report for consideration by the Group.
