Bio/CV

Adj. Professor Carmel McGregor PSM is a former Deputy Secretary People in the Department of Defence.  She joined the Department in March 2012 and led the cultural reforms including a review of pathways for women Defence.  Carmel’s previous position was that of Deputy Australian Public Service Commissioner, and during this period of time served on the Prime Minister’s Advisory Group on Reform of Australian Government Administration.  She was also vic chair of the Public Governance Committee of the OECD from 2008-2013. Carmel is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Public Administration (IPAA) and its ACT Deputy President.  She is also a Fellow of the Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI), a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Australian Institute of Training and Development.  She  is a non executive director of the AHRI Board, and the National Committee for UN Women  Australia.  In 2013 she was awarded the inaugural Public Policy Category winner in the Australian Financial Review/Westpac Women of Influence Awards and also received recognition of exceptional service finalist in the Federal Government Leader Awards by the Institute of Chartered Accountants

Public Service Excellence Awards

Carmel was awarded the Institute's Public Service Excellence Awards in 2012 for outstanding public sector leadership. The Public Sector Awards are presented to public servants at different levels of governance who have made an outstanding contribution to their field. Award recipients also receive an Adjunct Professorship or Honorary Fellowship, and Carmel was awarded an Adjunct Professorship with IGPA.
