Commercial Law and Governance
The Commercial Law and Governance theme builds on a long established strength of the Law Faculty in research in many aspects of commercial law, encompassing areas of corporate governance, property law (including intellectual and cultural property), taxation law and comparative law.
We study many aspects of commercial law, including:
- Copyright law, including defences to infringement and moral rights
- Taxation, administration and managing tax risk as a governance issue for the State and business;
- Cyberlaw and e-law
- Corporate law and corporate governance, including: the interaction between national political economy and the corporate governance system; corporate governance in China; and corporate and public sector governance
- Property law, with a focus on comparative property systems
- Questions of identity and governance (electronic signatures, verification mechanisms such as biometrics, privacy, CV and credit card fraud) regarding commercial transactions and delivery of government services
- Commercial and curatorial aspects of cultural property, including law regarding art investment funds and deaccessioning/acquisitioning by cultural institutions
