Catherine’s doctoral research into the citizen’s experience of epistemic practices when deliberative mini-publics are applied in Australian health policy settings focused her attention on the benefits of closing the gap between the theory and practice of deliberative democracy. The development of deliberative capacity and transformative potential of democratic-deliberation are of particular empirical interest.
These interests complement insights gained from Catherine’s background, which includes a Masters in Community and Health Development, working as a research assistant, teaching sociology, and establishing a social research consultancy. Catherine has also practiced as a nurse, midwife, and run her own naturopathic clinic.
