Lyn Carson


Lyn Carson is a professor with the Business Education Unit at The University of Sydney Business School. She was formerly a professorial fellow with the Centre for Citizenship and Public Policy at the University of Western Sydney, and before that the inaugural Academic Program Director with the United States Studies Centre, on secondment from the Department of Government and International Relations at The University of Sydney. For the past 25 years she has taught and researched in the field of deliberative democracy, asking how the wider public can help to resolve policy challenges.  She was involved in convening or supporting Australia's first Consensus Conference, the first Deliberative Polls, the first Australian Citizens' Parliament, numerous Citizens' Juries and Community Summits and a host of other public deliberations at local, state and national levels. Carson’s interest in community engagement began as a local councillor in Lismore, NSW (1991-1995). She is a former elected board member of the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) and Essay Editor of the Journal of Public Deliberation (on behalf of the IAP2 Federation).
