Priya Kurian

Priya Kurian is Professor of Political Science and Public Policy at the University of Waikato, New Zealand. A former journalist, she has a BA in English from the University of Madras and a MA and PhD in Political Science from Purdue University.

Her research is interdisciplinary and spans the areas of environmental politics and policy; science and technology studies; women, culture and development; and sustainable development. She is the author of Engendering the Environment? Gender in the World Bank’s Environmental Policies (Ashgate) and co-editor of International Organizations and Environmental Policy (Greenwood Press), Feminist Futures: Re-imagining Women, Culture and Development (Zed) and On the Edges of Development: Cultural Interventions (Routledge). She has also published numerous articles in journals such as Citizenship Studies, Sustainable Development, Third World Quarterly, Public Understanding of Science and Futures. Her current research is in the area of sustainability, citizenship and the governance of new and emerging technologies. She has been the co-Principal Investigator of a major study on Sustainable Citizenship: Transforming Public Engagement on New and Emerging Technologies funded by the Royal Society of New Zealand Marsden Grant.
