Mia McGaffin joined the Centre of Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance as a winter research intern. Mia is in her third of her double bachelor’s degree at the University of Canberra. She studies a Bachelor of Politics and International Relations/Bachelor of Communications in Media and Public Affairs. Throughout Mia’s studies she has shown a keen interest in using deliberative democracy and citizen co-design during the decision-making process of the policy design as Mia believes that public deliberation could be vital in the future of politics. After Mia completes her degree, she hopes to work on updating social welfare policies within Australia to create a supportive and reliable social policy system.

Prior to this internship, Mia has volunteered with many independent politicians and political candidates with the hope of spreading political awareness to constituents. Mia has also been a social media and e-commerce marketing intern at The Mill House Ventures and currently works as a Communications Officer at the University of Canberra for the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic. Mia’s past work experiences has taught her the importance of professional communication and research and she looks forward to implementing these skills at the Centre of Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance.
