Abstract:
In this seminar Bacchi outlines a form of Foucault-influenced poststructural policy analysis. She draws on earlier work (Analysing Policy: What’s the Problem Represented to be?, Pearson Education, 2009) and her recently published book, Poststructural Policy Analysis: A Guide to Practice (Palgrave Macmillan, 2016), co-authored with Susan Goodwin. The emphasis in poststructural policy analysis is on the productive character of policies, what they constitute or create as ‘real’. The usefulness of this argument is illustrated through examples of how policies produce ‘problems’, ‘subjects’, ‘objects’ and ‘places’.
