PS Excellence Awards 2016

The Instiute for Governance Public Sector Excellence Awards are awarded to outstanding Australian public servants at different levels of governance who demonstrate excellence in leadership, policy innovation and/or policy delivery that leads to positive social or economic outcomes for Australian citizens. 

The 2016 Award recipients for outstanding contribution to the Australian Public Service were Kathryn Campbell CSC and Mike Mrdak AO

KATHRYN CAMPBELL, CSC FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO THE AUSTRALIAN PUBLIC SERVICE

Kathryn Campbell joined the Department of Human Services as Secretary on 7 March 2011. Prior to her current appointment, Kathryn was the Deputy Secretary, Tertiary, Youth and International at the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations and has held the positions of Deputy Secretary, Budget and Deputy Secretary, Financial Management in the Department of Finance.

“Kathryn has been awarded this excellence award for her outstanding contribution to the promotion of public sector excellence and in particular the work that she has done in enhancing the quality of service delivery in Australia and in advancing the position of women in the Australian public service. In 2011, Kathryn was presented with the immense challenge of integrating three complex delivery agencies into one cohesive organisation – Medicare, Child Support and Centrelink– and she has met that challenge with great skill, diligence and innovation. We are delighted to honour the career of such an outstanding public servant.”

MIKE MRDAK AO FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO THE AUSTRALIAN PUBLIC SERVICE

Mike Mrdak is Secretary, Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development, a position he has held since June 2009. Mike began his Australian Public Service career in 1988 as a Graduate with the then Department of  Transport and Communications. Since then he has held a number of senior positions across the portfolio and with the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. His work with the infrastructure and regional development portfolio includes management of infrastructure investment; policy initiatives to increase productivity; security, safety and regulation in road, rail, aviation and maritime transport; regional development; local government; and services to Australia’s territories.

Mike’s achievements and approach to public administration are a hallmark for others to aspire, and are rightly celebrated through this Excellence award. We are delighted to honour the career of such an outstanding public servant.”
