Research Interests

Public sector communication, communications leadership, critical public relations, public relations pedagogy including blended learning approaches, social responsibility and ethics.

Barbara is the Director of Industry Engagement for the Faculty of Arts and Design. She manages Work Integrated Learning in the Communications discipline, including convening internships in public relations, advertising, media/public affairs and journalism, and convening project capstone units for third year PR students. She is also developing Faculty short course and professional development offerings for domestic and international markets, and supporting industry engagement at all levels for educational and commercial purposes.

Barbara was previously the Course Convenor of, and Lecturer in, the Bachelor of Public Relations (PR) at UC and the Bachelor of Public Relations with Hong Kong Baptist University. Prior to becoming an academic Barbara had a 25-year career in public relations and corporate communications. This included working as an Account Director for PR Consultancies in Sydney and London, managing her own consultancy in Sydney for a number of years and managing Corporate Communications Branches in senior-level Director and General Manager roles in Australian Federal Public Service Agencies in Canberra. Before joining UC in 2009 Barbara was an Adjunct Lecturer at Charles Sturt University teaching into its postgraduate Masters of Organisational Communication Program.
