Mary Venner worked in senior policy development roles with the Commonweath government in Canberra from 1985 to 2000, on a range of policy issues including public financial management reform, ethnic relations and multiculturalism, indigenous affairs, and telecommunications policy. Since 2000 she has delivered technical assistance and policy advice on public finance and public administration in numerous developing and post conflict countries including Kosovo, Afghanistan, East Timor, the Philippines, Libya and Somalia. She completed a PhD on the post conflict reconstruction of public administration in Kosovo at the University of New South Wales in 2014. A book based on her PhD thesis was published by Manchester University Press in 2016.
