BIO/CV

Ian Fitzgerald joined the Australian Public Service Commission (APSC) in January 2011 as the Chief Human Capital Officer. His role included working with APS colleagues and others to take a longer term view of Australia’s challenges and opportunities and the implications for leadership, workforce and agency capability in the Australian Public Service (APS). Ian was primarily responsible for setting up and overseeing a program of major capability reviews covering 23 APS departments and agencies. Ian was also responsible for the Strategic Centre for Leadership, Learning and Development which established the talent management and development processes required to build a strong pipeline of APS senior executives. This was overseen by the Secretaries Board. Prior to the APSC Ian held senior management policy and delivery roles in criminal justice agencies in Australia and the UK. He also held senior management positions in Westpac for seven years. Ian is presently completing a PhD at IGPA.
